DCI sleuths arrest fake cop in Ngong, military uniform recovered

Suspect told firearm holders to not visit the licensing office due to the coronavirus.

Police detectives have arrested a man who has been purporting to be a Chief Firearms Licensing officer in Ngong area.

The arrest follows complaints from the civilian firearm holders who have been receiving calls from the suspect asking them to send money to him for renewal of their certificates.

Anthony Maina Mwangi had been telling the firearm holders in the area that they should not proceed to the licensing office due to the coronavirus pandemic.

 

The detectives based at the headquarters launched an investigation which led to the arrest of Mwangi.

The detectives recovered a full set of military uniform and the phone numbers from the suspect that he was using to call the complainants.

In January, police arrested a police impostor who had extorted Sh30,000 from unsuspecting Kenyans.

Daniel Ochieng, 23, was arrested after the victim reported the case.

Ochieng was alleged to have visited Kabete National Polytechnic and introduced himself as a police officer posted from Central Police Division to conduct investigations on crimes within the institution.

“In the course of his unlawful conduct, he arrested a student on allegations that he was peddling narcotic drugs. He further intimidated the victim with severe police action and in the process extorted Sh30,000 from him,” DCI said.
