Two City Hall officials and three Nairobi MCAs have put themselves in self-quarantine after returning from visits abroad.

The two officials, environment and water executive Larry Wambua and disaster management chief officer Anne Mwenda returned from Dubai last week.

On Tuesday, Mwenda said she had been in self-quarantine since her return a week ago. Mwenda who was nominated by Governor Mike Sonko for the position of deputy governor said she underwent various checks for coronavirus while in Dubai and has kept social distance since her return.

Wambua said he went into quarantine upon return and has been observing the directives issued by the Ministry of Health.

“In Dubai, I went through various screenings before travelling back. We were searched and those who displayed symptoms were set aside and were isolated. For us, we were careful,” Wambua said.

While the officers insisted they had been in isolation, they were among county officials who met with Governor Mike Sonko in Upperhill before proceeding to State House for another meeting.

They were part of the county executives and chief officers who met with Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua at State House.

The newly appointed Metropolitan Service (NMS) director Mohammed Badi and his deputy Enosh Momanyi were present.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was not part of the meeting. The meeting followed the handover of four key county government functions to the national government.

The developments have caused panic at City Hall. On Monday, the NMS team met the executives whose functions were transferred to the national government.

“Let us not assume that all is well. Can you imagine the number of people who will be affected?" an official who did not want to be named said.

The MCAs on self-quarantine are said to have visited Germany in February.

Two are from Jubilee and the other a member of the ODM party.

County assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi while suspending plenary sittings last week directed the MCAs to self-quarantine.

“I advised the three not to endanger lives of others and also for their own sake to self-quarantine," Elachi said.
