Agriculture CS Peter Munya has told Kenyans not to worry about the locust invasion as "they are dying of old age anyway".

The CS spoke to the press at Gakurune Primary School in Meru after visiting areas where locusts have invaded.

"We have hovered over the areas said to be invaded, and we have confirmed that they are all over the trees," he said.

"But we want to assure Kenyans that the locusts are now yellow in colour, meaning they are old and about to die."

Affected areas include Gitine, Kathigu, Kianjogu and Mweru.

Munya said the locusts are not feeding much "as their only aim is to lay eggs".

He said the locusts are nutritious and anybody able to trap them can eat them.

“The only problem is we have sprayed them. They were sprayed in Tseikuru, Kitui. The best thing is to let them die."
