Five terror suspects will spend eight days in an undisclosed police station pending completion of investigations.

Milimani resident magistrate Abdul Zainabu granted the custody after the prosecution provided compelling reasons to allow their detention.

The prosecution had sought 15 days to have Mohamed Hassan, Mohamed Adan, Hodhan Abdi, Ifrah Mohamed and Abas Mohamed held pending completion of investigations.

Despite the court’s decision, the five had submitted that the 15 days were too many as they had already spent three days in custody.

In the eight days, the suspects will be investigated for the offence of engaging in illegal activities and collection of information for purposes of carrying out a terrorist attack.

According to the prosecution, the police during the arrests seized electronic gadgets that will be forensically examined and a report obtained for analysis.

In an affidavit filed by investigating officer Vincent Mutai, the five suspects were arrested on January 18 in Eastleigh Section 1.

“They had been trailed from Whiskey Rivers Pub in Kiambu county by police officers on night patrol duties while on board of Toyota Vitz later handed to ATPU for investigations,” Mutai said.

The officer added that Abas Mohamed is a Kenyan national and could assist investigators. Further, he was allegedly in constant communication with the other suspects in the case.

The court also heard that the vehicle they were using may be required to obtain more information.

Mohamed is also said to have been in constant communication with other accomplices said to be still at large.

Mutai added that Hassan, Hodhan and Ifrah are suspected to be Somali nationals as they don't have identification documents.

“The suspects are a flight risk and they should be detained pending the conclusion of investigations."
