Water CS Simon Chelugui was on Wednesday grilled for over five hours following misappropriation of Sh19 billion meant for the Itaare dam project.
Chelugui arrived at the Muthaiga DCI headquarters on Wednesday mid morning to record statement on the whereabouts of the money.
It is said Chelugui took over the mantle at the Ministry in February 2018 and thus he is responsible for the missing cash.
According to DCI, the ministry has already spent some Sh11 billion yet the project is only 10 percent complete.
The detectives have been following up on the project in Kuresoi North of Nakuru county.
The ministry however said that the project is so far 40 percent complete. In 2016, the project sparked fierce political rivalry between president Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
While Raila said the project would have dire consequences on the environment, Uhuru hit back saying Raila was only after sparking political tension.
