Two police officers were on Friday shot dead in Kayole, Nairobi.

The cops died on the spot in the Obama area of Njiru sub-county where they were attached. The attackers escaped with their guns.

Nairobi regional police commander Philip Ndolo said the officers were on duty. "We don't want to speculate on the circumstances under which they were killed," Ndolo told the Star by phone.

Constables Joel Chesire and Albert Abeere were on night patrol near the Saika- Dandora Bridge at around 4.00am.

Chesire was shot in the head and Abeere in the chest and neck.

A police source said five cartridges were recovered at the scene.

There were no arrests by press time. "We will do everything possible to ensure that those who killed the officers are arrested. It is just a matter of hours," Ndolo said.

The incident happened barely a week after two police officers were seriously injured and their official vehicle damaged in Kayole.

They had raided a chang’aa den in Soweto slum.

Several suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
