At least 14 senior officers from the Civil Registration Bureau (CRB) have been arrested by the DCI during a crackdown.
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Friday released a list of 24 officers being pursued.
He said further operations and arrests will take place at hospitals in Nairobi believed to be part of cartels aiding misconduct.
"Government offices are not conduits for brokers and criminals to enrich themselves by coning members of the public," he said.
Among those sought were the CRB regional coordinator Paul Kagiri, principal records officer Charles Akwoni, principal civil registration officer Charity Mwadime and her assistant, Jane Maina.
Others are Patrick Silla and Peter Nganga, both civil registration officers; Joyce Keitany, an assistant and assistant office administrator, Maxmilla Ouma.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and PS Karanja Kibicho this week pitched camp at the Civil Registration Bureau (CRB) in Upper Hill, adding they would do so until all envisioned changes in the issuing of birth and death certificates were implemented.
The two had been visiting the department daily since Friday last week.
“We have been here since last week including the weekend to respond to the cries of Kenyans due to the delay in issuance of birth certificates,” Matiang'i said on Monday.
This followed concerns from citizens about the slow processing of certificates at the department’s ACK Bishop House offices.
Two senior officers at the CRB were interdicted and investigations into corruption in the issuing of certificates are ongoing.
“Corruption has no place in the Ministry of Interior and the Government. It will be dealt with accordingly. If you see any brokers outside these premises, they should be arrested immediately,” Matiang’i said.
The CS further urged Kenyans to work with the government to stamp out corruption.
