Two Somali bandits on Saturday shot dead a man at Kola Katune, Ngomeni, in Kitui.

Each of them had an AK 47 rifle. They shot at seven people and killed 35-year-old Kasee Muumbo.  Musili Munyoki's leg was fractured.

The bandits took away 50kgs of gum from which spice is extracted.

Kyuso sub-county police commander Charles Machinji said, “Seven men were ambushed as they negotiated the price of their Itura tree gum with a buyer. The assailants fired at them, killing one person.”

The bandits also stole Sh1,000 and fled on a motorbike.

“We visited the area today and combed the bushes thoroughly but could not trace the attackers whom we take to be ordinary thugs. We collected four spent cartridges at the scene,” Machinji said.

Area MCA Muteti Nding'uri condemned the killing. He called for intensified security patrols, adding that killers pose as camel herders.
