A 43-year-old father of three from Weru village in Kinangop, Nyandarua, has committed suicide.

Joseph Gakobo’s body was discovered on Sunday by his wife. It was dangling from the roof of a family store. He hanged himself using a rope.

Weru senior assistant chief Mary Njaure said it was not clear why Gakobo took his life. The scene had no suicide note and investigations had yet to be conducted.

Gakobo's family left him at home as they went to church on Sunday morning. They did not find him when they returned. Around 3pm, his wife went to open a coop for egg-laying chickens near the store. She was shocked to find him dead.

Njaure cautioned residents against resorting to suicide when faced with problems. She said it does not set a good example for children and society. She urged residents to come out and speak about their tribulations so they get assisted.

"I urge other people who could be considering such a move to share what is bothering them so we can talk and find a solution," Njaure said.

Neighbours described Gakobo as a hardworking man, saying it is unbelievable he was dead.

"He is a farmer who grew potatoes and also cooked and sold mandazi, among other businesses," Cornelius Waweru said
