A motorist was discovered to be ferrying bhang after he was involved in an accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Saturday morning.

The driver and a passenger were injured.

The accident happened near the Delamere Farm in Naivasha.

Traffic police who went to the scene were left in shock on discovering the haul.

The passenger fled.

Naivasha subcounty police commander Samuel Waweru said the motorist attempted to overtake a fleet of vehicles when the accident occurred.

“It was obvious the motorist was speeding in attempt to dodge police manning several roadblocks mounted along the busy highway,” he said.

Waweru said the driver was rushed to Naivasha Hospital where he is undergoing treatment under police watch.

Police have launched a manhunt for the other suspect.

Waweru said the bhang is estimated to be worth Sh1.5 million.

It was destined for Mombasa.

In September last year, police raided the home of a suspected drug dealer and netted 11 bags of bhang with an estimated street value of Sh2 million.

Acting on a tipoff, the officers struck the suspect’s Kayole home in the outskirts of Naivasha, but he escaped.
