Former PS Irungu Nyakera yesterday said he is ready to cooperate with investigators probing the multibillion dams scandal to unearth the truth.

The ex-Devolution and Planning PS insisted that he was clean and would tell the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti as much if summoned.

“On this particular matter, I am very ready and willing to give the DCI any information that I may have and assist to ensure that culprits are brought to book,” the former PS said in a statement.

Nyakera said the budget and payments for the Arror dam was in the 2018-2019 financial year, the period within which, he noted, Kerio Valley Development Authority was under the Ministry of East African Community.

The ex-PS yesterday said he was willing to take on his political rivals whom he accused of "sponsoring a smear campaign against him" using the dams probe.

Irungu, who has since joined politics and is the Democratic Party of Kenya deputy party leader, signalled his ambitions to run for political office in the 2022 polls.

“Since I became active in politics and advocacy, I have realised that there are some forces that try to drag my name into any mess whenever such an opportunity arises. I have also shed off my kiddie gloves and therefore willing to go head on with the specific individuals trying to muddy my good name,” he said.

The Star exclusively reported on Monday that Nyakera wrote a letter to Treasury PS Kamau Thugge asking for the release of the advance payment of Sh4.6 billion to CMC di Ravenna, the contractor of Arror dam.

His letter was dated December 21, 2017.

The DCI has launched investigations into the Arror and Kimwarer dams in Elgeyo Marakwet county over claims that senior government officials and politicians could have shared part of the Sh21 billion advance payment to the contractor.
