37 camels die after drinking contaminated water in Marsabit

Residents of Maikona in Marsabit county are counting losses after 37 camels died after drinking contaminated water. They told the Star more than 100 camels were affected after drinking water at El-Hadi dam on Monday. Some families that lost their animals said the well has not been in use for the last two months.

Residents of Maikona in Marsabit county are counting losses after 37 camels died after drinking contaminated water.

They told the Star more than 100 camels were affected after drinking water at El-Hadi dam on Monday.

Some families that lost their animals said the well has not been in use for the last two months.

The county government has dispatched a team of health and veterinary officers to find out the root cause of the deaths.

Maikona Ward Representative Buke Diba Jattani said the camels died after drinking unclean water.

He appealed to well-wishers for assistance since the herders had lost their livelihood and are facing poverty.
