Newly married Garissa woman, 10-year-old boy killed in bandit attack

A newly-married woman and a ten-year old school boy were on Tuesday killed by suspected Borana bandits in Modogashe, Garissa county.

The deaths, believed to caused by a land dispute, sparked tension in the northeastern town and the neighbouring settlements.

Clashes between the Borana and Somali communities who are both laying claim to the land bordering Isiolo county.

A cop from the Kenya Police Reserve unit who was dressed in AP uniform was among the raiders.

He was killed in the operation.

Garissa county commissioner Joshua Chepchieng said security has been enhanced in the area and neighboring settlements.

Speaking to the star on phone, Lagdera MP Hire Mohamed condemned the killings of the two young kids.

He said it is high time the national government brought the killings to an end.

On Monday, two other local residents were shot dead by suspected bandits near the Isiolo border.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane has blamed laxity by police officers for the increased killings in the area.
