Three people drowned when Kandisi River in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado, burst as they crossed it
on Thursday night.
County Commissioner David Kipkemei said the victims hang on to a bridge for close to an hour before they were overwhelmed.
"They had been crossing the river along Fatima Road when it burst suddenly," he said by phone. "Seven people who were with them managed to swim across the water."
Ongata Rongai MCA Mwathi Pere, who went to the scene, said the river's four tributaries got swollen as a result of heavy rains.
"It is risky to search for the bodies at the moment," he said, adding reports indicated several houses were swept in Ole Kasasi area.
The incident took place a day after three people died in a landslide in Kajiado West sub-county.
In another part of the county, people and animals waited desperately, for hours, to cross a road that 'turned into a river' after heavy rains.
They had intended to cross from
Oloishobor
to
Kimuka in the evening but
the murram Kimuka-Olasiti road was rendered impassable.
Floodwaters have also
prevented the reopening of schools in parts of Kajiado for the second term.
