Senator Mohamed Mohamud told a court that Mandera politicians who won in the August 8 elections were elected based on clan and not political affiliation.
He said such endorsements are a norm that he opposed and he opted to vie with a Jubilee ticket.
Mohamud was testifying in a petition filed against him by EFF's Hassan Osman.
The Senator said most of the candidates elected in Wajir North were from the Degodia community.
He said a majority of MCAs come from the Economic and Freedom Party, who had support from clan elders.
Osman wants Mohamud's election nullified, saying it was flawed.
