Emma Mbura has castigated Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa for calling upon witches to stop Thursday's poll, saying the implication is that the Mijikenda community believes in black magic.

The former nominated Senator

said the comments are misleading and portray the people in bad light.

At Mwarakaya village in Kilifi county last Friday, Jumwa said any resident who can use the black magic to stop the election is free to do so.

"I know we have people who can do this. Please send bees to any person who will wake up to go and vote," Jumwa said.

But on Wednesday, Mbura said the community does not believe in witchcraft as portrayed by Jumwa.

"She is shaming me as a Mijikenda woman, the community and Kilifi as a county. We believe in God, not evil powers," the Jubilee politician said.

She said if Kilifi had witches, Jumwa should have gone to them to help NASA leader Raila Odinga win the August 8 polls.

"If so, then it means they do not love Raila as much as they claim," said Mbura.

"LEADERS WRONG ON HISTORY"

Mbura said Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi lied when he told Mwarakaya residents that the Coast region was not colonised by Europeans.

"The Europeans did not rule us in Coast.

They ruled the countryside only," Kingi said adding that only Arabs ruled the region.

But the politician said Mijikenda heroines lsuch as Mekatilili wa Menza fought the Europeans , not Arabs.

"If Kingi does not know the history of the Coast, he should ask his great great great grandfathers," Mbura said.

She said it is disgraceful for senior politicians at the Coast to mislead the residents on the region's history.

Coast has some of the major historical sites including Gedi ruins and Vasco Da Gama pillar in Kilifi county and the Fort Jesus in Mombasa county.

Mbura said Kingi cannot protect the heritage of the county if he does not know its history.

"When Mekatilili was arrested and jailed, was she fighting the Mau Mau? She was fighting the Europeans," Mbura said.

She urged the two leaders to tone down their political rhetoric saying it is not good for the development of the region.

Jumwa and Kingi have been in the forefront leading anti-IEBC protests and leading the NASA rallying call 'No reforms! No elections'.

"Politics is not about enmity. Today, Jumwa wants witches to bewitch voters, tomorrow she might need the same voters," said Mbura.

She called on residents to also put leaders to task and not applaud everything they say.
