Mutula Kilonzo had a premonition of his death a day before his body was found at his Kwa Kyelu ranch in Machakos.

Nduku, who was his second wife, said this at a Machakos court on Tuesday, adding Mutula told her his life was in danger after seeing insects in their house.

"I had noticed some insects in the house. I wanted to call a fumigation company but he told me, and I quote, 'My life is in danger. I cannot allow strangers in the house'," she said.

She added: "He expressed fear for his life on Thursday, a day before his death."

Mutula, who was Makueni Senator, .

Nduku said she asked her husband if he was referring to an old threat but that he said he did not want to discuss the matter further.

"What you do not know will never hurt you," she quoted him as saying, adding Mutula seemed bothered but did not disclose the nature of the threat.

The widow told the court Mutula was threatened in a letter that was in an envelope with a powder. She said the letter was sent to a school in Mbooni in 2009.

"The letter was written in red. It read 'Mutula Kilonzo breathe your last',” she told the court.

Nduku further said her husband was also threatened in 2012 by a woman who said her boss had sent her to kill him.

This was by SMS, she informed the court, adding both incidents were reported to police.

She said she never learned the woman's identity.

Nduku said she last saw her husband that Friday morning before he left for work.

She told magistrate Kipkurui Kibellion they had been married for 31 years and that she had not known him to suffer from any ailment.

But she revealed he had been taking lozenges for a cold when he died.

She also said she had not been in good terms with his first wife's children, a circumstance she attributed to their mother whom she said was not happy when Mutula married her.
