The government and nurses’ union should speed up talks and resolve the dispute so that nurses in public hospitals go back to work, Kiharu MP Irungu Kang’ata (pictured) has said. Nurses in public hospitals countrywide have boycotted work since June 5 over a pay dispute.

The Murang’a senator aspirant said thousands of Kenyans are suff ering because they cannot afford medical services in private hospitals. “Patients, especially those suffering from terminal illnesses that require constant attention ,are being forced to sell their land and homes to stay alive,” he said.

Kang’ata spoke at Ndunyu ya Chege market Gatanga constituency where he had organised a free medical camp. Th ousands of residents trickled into the camp and braved the long queues to get treatment.

Kang’ata, the Jubilee nominee, said he used his own money to fund the medical camp in partnership with Kimkan Hospital.

Kang’ata dismissed allegations that he has been using money from the CDF kitty to fund medical camps.
