Police on Wednesday arrested a woman in Murang'a over possession of ballot papers.

Kandara OCPD Gregory Mutiso said the women was found with hundreds of ballot papers in her handbag at Karumu Primary School polling station.

Reacting to the news, Murang'a governor aspirant Jamleck Kamau asked police to find out who the woman is working for.

"I understand she is from another political camp but we are demanding that the matter is speedily brought to rest to prevent interference in the credibility of the voting exercise," the Kigumo MP said.

But incumbent Governor Mwangi wa Iria accused Jamleck of being a cry baby and scheming to rig the polls in the pretext that his opponents were intending to do so.

He said Jamleck should withdraw from the Jubilee party if he lacks faith in its ability to conduct credible nominations.

Wa Iria also raised questions over the shortage of ballot papers for the Governor's seat yet papers for other slots were sufficient.

Area woman rep Sabina Chege raised the same concern, adding that some youths were washing out the voting ink to cast their ballot several times.

"We have received information that some aspirants are ferrying youths from one station to the other to vote using their identity cards since they are not on the register,” she said.

She asked all aspirants to unanimously agree on who should and should not be allowed to vote to allow double casting of ballots.

“I am also asking the party to take stern action against those aspirants who encourage their supporters to vote more than once,” she added.
