IEBC on Thursday warned public servants against using state resources in their campaigns ahead of the August 8 polls.

The commission said such practices are against provisions of Section 14 of the Election Offences Act, 2016.

Chairman Wafula Chebukati in a statement said those who violate the law will be fined Sh2 million or jailed six years.

"Be notified that persons who fail to comply with the provisions of this law commit an offence and are liable on conviction."

He said the commission or its agents will impound any state resources unlawfully used in the current campaigns.

The electoral agency also asked MP, Governor, Deputy Governor, MCA aspirants to declare state assets assigned to them.

"Those who wish to participate in the elections should provide a list of the said facilities to IEBC by May 2," Chebukati said.

"The provisions shall apply with necessary modifications to an employee of a statutory corporation or state-controlled company."

The Election Offences Act provides that state officers shall not use public resources for the purpose of campaigning during an election.

The Act further states that no government shall publish any advertisements of achievements of the respective government.

"This can neither be carried in the print media, electronic media, or by way of banners or hoardings in public places."
