Gretsa University has defended Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho as a qualified student following his graduation last December.
The university also dismissed claims by ODM politicians that it was being coerced to withdraw the governor's degree.
Vice Chancellor Kuria Thuo said the quality audit by the Commission for University Education (CUE) at the school was normal.
"Late last month, the university was audited simultaneously with all the 70 public and private universities in Kenya," Thuo said.
Thuo said on Thursday that the exit report by CUE indicated the university had complied with the set standards and guidelines.
He added Joho was a duly registered Bachelor of Commerce student, specialising in Human Resource Management.
"He was on a long-distance programme since 2014 and graduated having satisfied the board of examiners and University Senate," Thuo said.
The clarification is likely to end the campaign by Joho's political competitors who have attempted to discredit his academic qualifications.
"Gretsa has not been harassed or instructed by anyone to cancel any of our graduate's degrees," he said in an interview with the Star.
He said that as a university committed to quality education, they only admit and graduate candidates who meet the requirements.
The issue of Joho's degree,
viewed as part of the scheme by Jubilee to discredit the governor, in attempt to get support at the Coast.

Coast is perceived as an ODM stronghold, although Wiper and UDF are also struggling to cut their share of stakes in the region.
Joho has on many occasions told President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto that votes are with the people and not state agencies.
He claimed that there is a deliberate attempt to lock him out of the August 8 general election on grounds that he is not qualified to run for governor.
Governors are required to hold a minimum qualification of a university degree to take part in the poll.
"The government must be told that the votes lie with the people.
I expect
that the worst things will come in the future," Joho said at a recent press conference.
Joho said that he will stop at nothing to ensure that his name is in the ballot, further castigating Jubilee for taking people's lives for granted.
There is a narrative that the Mombasa county boss is linked to the drug menace that has wrecked the lives of many youths in the country.
"The narrative that I am
a drug dealer was peddled in 2013 to deny me a
chance to vie.
We are seeing the same being driven now," said Joho.
