Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is facing possible removal from office following the filing of a notice of motion for his impeachment on Wednesday.
The notice moved by Ndalani MCA Stephen Muthuka detailed numerous grounds for the Governor’s impeachment.
Issues raised touch on violation of the constitution, procurement laws and the County Government Act.
Among them is the alleged fictitious payment of Sh89 million for the purported desilting of Maruba Dam, and the award of a contract for construction of access roads.
Muthuka claimed in his motion that no such work was done as during that period - January and February - the county was experiencing El Nino rains.
He further claimed the Governor made an illegal payment
on a false certificate that was not backed by actual work on the ground.

Muthuka also pointed out the irregular transfer of Danida funds from the county's accounts to personal accounts, through illegal cash and hefty withdrawals/payments.
“The Governor and his government presided over illegal and irregular misappropriation of grants and transfers from Danida and World Health Organizations amounting to Sh161 million to Machakos county W.H.O PROSPECT ACT C/A – COUNTY GOVERNMENT," reads part of the motion.
Muthuka also accused the Governor of using county funds to mount signposts promoting his Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement.
He said the Governor abused his office and used public funds for Maendeleo Chap Chap activities and programmes.
Other accusations included the irregular purchase of vehicles by the county, irregular payment of confidential expenditure amounting to Sh7.5 million and failure to establish internal audit mechanisms.
Addressing journalists outside the assembly, together with more than 36 MCAs, Muthuka said the motion was the property of a majority of them.
Assembly speaker Bernard Mung’ata said the motion was before the house and will be debated starting next Wednesday.
Mutua has been quoted as saying the planned impeachment resulted from his refusal to bow to MCAs demands for him to fund their campaigns.
