The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers have launched an online certificate course to boost accounting practices in Kenya.

The ICAEW International Public Sector Accounting Standards certification is aimed at providing high quality, flexible and accessible certified learning to professionals in the public sector.

With no entry requirements, the programme is expected to complement existing skills among public sector accountants, and to help manage finances more efficiently, ICAEW director Ross Campbell said in a statement.

“With IPSAS comes uniformity in reporting, enabling comparability across entities and better interpretation of financial information. This is significant when it comes to more informed assessments of the resource allocation decisions undertaken by governments,” said Stephen Ochieng, a partner at PwC.

"The e-learning certified programme is now live and is open to anyone who works in the public sector and wants to enhance their financial management skills," Campbell said.
