A Catholic priest has warned Nyeri MCAs to cede ground on the impasse involving 2016/17 budget and threats to impeach Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

Fr Charles Wairagu of Kiamuiru Catholic Church also urged the governor, ward representatives to soften their stands and work for the electorate.

Wairagu was speaking during the burial ceremony of Gatitu/Muruguru MCA Mwangi Kibuu’s father, Francis Kibuu at Kiamuiru village, Nyeri county on Thursday.

"Pride and wealth will either make or break you. Talk politics of development and unity," the man of God said.

The event was attended by Senator Mutahi Kagwe, Kieni MP Kanini Kega and county assembly speaker Mwangi Mugo.

The clergy further castigated Speaker Mugo for asserting that there was no war in the county despite the differences playing out in the public.

"Nyeri is not at war. The constitutional institutions should respect each other. The executive and the legislative arm of the county must perform their respective roles and appreciate the separation of powers," said Mugo.

He also defended the MCAs saying they were executing their mandate as provided for in the constitution.

The impasse in the county started after the governor declined to assent to the Sh6.5 billion budget.

Gachagua said the estimates grounded his office operations.
