Administration Police who graduated from various universities in December last year have demanded a salary increment proportional to their new academic qualifications.

The 400 officers between the ranks of constable and senior sergeant are aggrieved by delays in review of their salaries.

They say their regular and GSU counterparts who they graduated with on the same day, got their salary increments in January, a month after submitting their degree certificates to human resources department.

But APs are yet to receive the increment.

Several AP officers who spoke to the Star on condition of anonymity said director of complaints department at AP headquarters Gitahi Kanyeki has been telling them their documents are still undergoing verification.

“What kind of verification is that that can take more than three months?” asked a junior cop who can’t be named because he is not allowed to speak to press.

The officers said numerous complaints to the National Police Service Commission have not yielded anything as they said the commission has failed to intervene.

AP operations spokesman Peter Pamba said the officers should be patient and give the human resources department adequate time to conclude the verifications.

The lowest paid graduate police officer should earn a minimum of Sh36, 000 depending on rank and years of service.
