The UoN has suspended 139 more students over unrest and destruction of public property during protests, bringing the total to 201.

Sixty two students were for allegedly participating in violent protests

last week, over disputed student union elections.

VC Peter Mbithi said the

University of Nairobi has initiated a disciplinary process against the students over the chaos.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mbithi asked them to collect their suspension letters from the Registrar, Students’ Affairs, by Friday.

The students took to the streets following Babu Owino's victory in the race for Sonu chairman.

They burned Sonu offices and set a hostel on fire following an order for the university's

over the unrest.

Owino, whose real name is

Paul Ongili, has been at the helm of Sonu

since 2014 when he was re-elected for the second time, making his current term the fourth.

He

allegedly defeated Mike Jacobs

by engaging in malpractices.

Jacobs, who was in the first batch of suspended students, said on Tuesday that the disciplinary action taken was as their mistakes were not specified.
