Former national basketball champions Upper Hill won all their pool matches to book a semis date with St. Austin’s during the Metropolitan Region games staged at Laiser Hill yesterday.
Upper Hill beat Ongata Senior 56-11, Muindi Mbingu 62-15 and Kikumini 73-15 to advance to the semi finals. In their last group fixture (against Kikumini), Upper Hill’s Eddy Ochieng’ scored 11 points whereas Salim Zige had five for the losers.
The second semis pits hosts Laiser Hill and Muindi Mbingu. En-route to the semis, Laiser Hill hammered Kasikeu 81-20, St. Austin’s 63-19 and Lukenya School 68-11. Ryan Otsimi led the host team with 17 points, as Samuel Athian contributed 14 against Lukenya School. Tony Aton scored six in their losing efforts.
Girls’ basketball proved to be Nairobi teams’ specialty as Parklands Arya and Buruburu won all their pool matches to cruise to the semis. Parklands Arya, the defending champions face Laiser Hill while Buruburu play Goo Shepherd in the semis.
Regional holders Moi Girls beat St. Joseph’s Kibwezi 1-0 through a Jerah Nyanchama’s 42nd minute goal to book a date with Parklands Arya, who defeated Mitaboni 4-0 in semis. Fatima Omar and Marina Njeri scored a brace each, in the 30th, 45th, and 32nd and 34th minutes respectively.
The boys semis will feature Tala and Upper Hill while the second will pit Hillcrest against Entarara. In rugby, Upper Hill, who won all their pool matches whitewashed Nairobi School 67-0 in the semis.
