Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula's billboard in Kakamega town announcing the launch of his presidential bid has been destroyed.
The launch has been postponed twice due to misunderstanding between Ford Kenya and Kakamega ODM officials. It will take place on April 2 in the Muliro Gardens. Kakamega county Ford Kenya chairman Habil Mutimba yesterday said the billboard erected on the Kakamega-Mumias road was carried away on Tuesday night. “We were not aware until some of our supporters called us informing us of the development, which is primitive,” he said.
Mutimba said other billboards have been erected on the Kakamega-Webuye and Kakamega-Kisumu roads. “We have formed a team of Ford Kenya youth who will guard the billboard day and night to ensure they are intact,” he said in Kakamega town. Mutimba said the vandalism has been reported to the Kakamega police station.
Meanwhile, Bungoma Ford Kenya MPs Chris Wamalwa and Wafula Wamunyinyi have asked Cord leader Raila Odinga to control Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. “If the coalition leader cannot tame Oparanya because he is from his team, we shall reconsider our position in the coalition,” Wamalwa said.
Wamunyinyi said they suspect Oparanya and the ODM brigade in Kakamega is being used by someone in the Cord top leadership. He asked why Raila has remained silent. Mutimba said the vandalism is part of a wider scheme by ODM followers, led by Oparanya, to frustrate Wetang’ula’s political progression. Oparanya has denied fighting Wetang’ula but demanded he respects the Kakamega ODM leadership.
