HUNDREDS of Lamu residents and tourists flocked to Peponi Beach to witness the 4th annual hat contest.It attracted more than 100 participants.The colourful contest brought together hat makers who collect raw materials from the beach.For tourists, it was an opportunity to witness the “mad hats” as it is referred by residents due to the hats appearances.

HUNDREDS of Lamu residents and tourists flocked to Peponi Beach to witness the 4th annual hat contest.

It attracted more than 100 participants.

The colourful contest brought together hat makers who collect raw materials from the beach.

For tourists, it was an opportunity to witness the “mad hats” as it is referred by residents due to the hats appearances.

The hats came in the shapes of dolphins, octopuses and boats.

Most of them were made of plastics.

The festival was attended by Governor Issa Timamy, Deputy Governor Eric Mugo and Tourism executive Samia Omar.

The winner received 30,000 shillings from the Lamu county government.
