The family of a KDF major who has been missing since al Shabaab's attacked a military camp in Somalia is worried over his whereabouts.

Major Geoffrey Obwoge’s family has been waiting for communication but the government has released no information after the attack.

When the Star visited Obwoge’s home at Misesi, his younger brother Zebedeo Ayako said some members are too distressed to eat, adding they were concerned as the major was the sole bread winner in the family of three.

“I last spoke to my brother on January 7, a week after he travelled to Somalia to join Amisom troops,” Ayako said.

"We urge the government to speed up the rescue operations and communicate the status to us."

He said they are unsure whether to mourn or wait for official communication from the government.

His father Charles expressed optimism that Obwoge will be found alive.

"We are hoping that our prayers which we have been holding here will be answered," he said on phone from Eldoret, where Obwoge lives with his family.

The father said he last spoke to Obwoge in December before he left for Somalia.

He said Obwoge, 32, joined the forces as a Cadet in 2002 and was posted to Moi Forces 9KR Eldoret, adding that he worked in Mandera last year before he was deployed to Somalia.

Major Obwoge holds two degrees from Moi University, he said.
