Kibunjia denies crisis at national museums

National Museums of Kenya director general Mzalendo Kibunjia has dismissed claims the institution is cash-strapped. He termed the reports “malicious,” saying it is a scheme by his detractors to spoil his reputation and destabilise his agenda. “My only sin has been stopping expenditure in areas where we have no budget,” he told the press yesterday.

On Monday, the Star reported that NMK has been struggling to meet its financial obligations, including payment of salaries. Kibunjia, who took over at NMK in March, said the museums had a budget deficit of Sh800 million.
