POLITICAL analyst Mutahi Ngunyi was questioned by the cohesion team yesterday over his alleged tribal profiling of the Luo and Luhya on social media.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission took him to task over statements in his Twitter account in relation to Cord leader Raila Odinga.

“Raila should be put on trial. The judge: poverty-stricken Luos and Luhyas craving his bondage. Charge: Selfishness, selfishness, selfishness,” read his post on August 21.

On August 23, Ngunyi posted: “The Luo nation is spell-bound by Raila. Period. That is why they call him baba like Nyayo, in fact, the only baba after Nyayo. Mental slavery.”

NCIC also took issue with a post on Ngunyi’s account over the Kenya-Uganda sugar deal.

In the post, Ngunyi said Raila should be held accountable for the economic stagnation of the region.

In a series of tweets, Mutahi said Raila had impoverished his supporters mainly from Luo Nyanza and Western.

He said Raila made sure communities in the regions, where he enjoys support, live below the poverty line.

Ngunyi last week apologised for the posts.

However, the Law Society of Kenya sent a protest letter to NCIC, asking it to investigate.

Yesterday, Ngunyi appeared before the NCIC head office in Nairobi and pleaded for more time to prepare his defence.

He said he had just flown back into the country.

Ngunyi will face the NCIC jury tomorrow.
