Thirst for new life: Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti at St Anthony Catholic Church in Irinda, Meru town, on Sunday.

IMENTI Central MP Gideon Mwiti has asked his bodyguards to ensure he does not stray from a Christian life.

He yearns to live a Christian life and mentor his constituents.

Mwiti spoke at St Anthony Catholic Church in Irinda, Meru town, on Sunday.

The MP has a case in court in which he has denied raping a businesswoman. The High Court suspended the case for the review of Mwiti’s application to stop the DPP from pursuing prosecution.

On Sunday, Mwiti said he has lived in darkness but it ended with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to crack down on second-generation alcohol.

Mwiti said when his fellow legislators started the campaign to destroy illicit alcohol in Meru, he went and closed his business that was selling more than Sh300,000 worth of liquor a day.

“Before I stopped drinking and became a Christian I was drinking the most expensive drinks. But I know it does not matter what type of beer or drink it is. There is no first and second-generation drinks, because they all make somebody drunk,” he said.

The MP said he will start a church and spread the gospel of truth.

“I don’t want to live a casual life again. I am an MP and I should behave like one; like a father of my children and like a husband.”
