BUSINESS at the Neno Evangelism Centre was unusual yesterday after more than 20 bishops and pastors trooped to Nairobi to rally behind apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a.

Ng’ang’a is staring at possible prosecution over accident he allegedly caused in Limuru when a Range Rover Sport car killed a woman on July 26.

It is alleged he was driving a car on the wrong side of the road.

The clergy from far-flung parts of the country such as Samburu said the incident is a "scheme" to ruin Ng’ang’a.

"It is not about accident but it is about bringing someone down. If it is about the accident, the owner of the car is there and the case is in court," Bishop Wafula from Mombasa's Neno Evangelism said.

Worshippers filled the church minutes before Ng’ang’a took to the pulpit at about midday.

Ng’ang’a blamed the media for his troubles, saying he neither sell water nor milk in his church but he preaches the Gospel.

He asked the media to keep off him and stick to their work.

Ng’ang’a urged the congregants to ignore what the media reports about him.

As tirade at the media continued, faithful ululated and chanted "we will overcome".

Ng’ang’a urged the media to report on positive issues such as farming instead of following him on non-issues.

He told his congregation not to listen to people with "bad news" but instead turn to the few with good news, saying "they will fight but will not win".

Shortly after testimonies, Ng’ang’a said what he has done has changed the lives of several people, some with rare conditions that doctors were unable to treat.

"Do you think the Satan will laugh when you do such work? No day a man of God will be defeated," he said.

Wafula said the whole thing will collapse as at no time will men of God be defeated.

He wondered why the government wants to register clerics.

The other clerics were drawn from Bungoma, Eldoret, Gilgil, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kapenguria, Kibwezi, Kilifi, Kisumu, Nandi, Machakos Meru and Mumias.
