EIGHT governors in the North Rift have agreed to work on a deal to form an economic bloc.
Samburu county has now joined the plan that initially involved Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet.
West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin and his Uasin Gishu counterpart Jackson Mandago along with six deputy governors met in Eldoret town on Friday where they agreed to sign the Memorandum of Understanding in the next few weeks.
“We have now moved closer to sign the MOU on the establishment of the North Rift economic block and we are now working on how to bring on board all the other leaders and key stakeholders,” Mandago said.
He said experts have finalised details of the MOU and county assemblies will be involved in coming up with a legal framework for the economic bloc.
“We will then involve other partners such as the Chamber of Commerce and other groups to have all our people on board,” Mandago said.
