Transport was interrupted for five hours on the Kapenguria-Kacheliba road when matatu operators blocked the road at Kishaunet yesterday.

Youths held a peaceful demonstration, saying lorries ferrying sand have been knocking passenger vehicles and pushing them off the road.

More than 100 lorries use the road to transport sand from Kopoch to major towns in the country.

The demonstrators carried placards and twigs.

“The heavy trucks block the road causing passenger vehicles to waste a lot of time on the road,” said matatu operators chairperson Rajab Lodomo.

This comes a day after a driver was knocked by a lorry and beaten up.

Lodomo said drivers repair their vehicles every day.

“We have taken loans and we are unable to repay them because we incur huge losses,” he said.

Lodomo said the trucks have spoiled the road and it is now in a pathetic state.

Alale MCA Joseph Lokakwadou said reps will table a motion in the assembly on the state of the road.
