A Nairobi court yesterday ruled that popular Kikuyu musician John Mwangi alias John De Mathew be tried for incitement.Trial magistrate Hellena Nderitu ruled that the evidence shown by the prosecution warranted placing the musician on his defence.

De Mathew asked the magistrate for time to prepare his defence. De Mathew alongside Mark Kamande Wa Kioi and John Muigai Nyaruru had denied charges of incitement and hate speech but his co-accused sought for an out-of-court settlement.

De Mathew faced three charges through his song titled Uhuru ni Witu, the contents translated to mean "When Abraham disobeyed God, he was ordered to be circumcised, you General of Migingo, the panga is being sharpened."
