Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the Joint Committee of Cabinet has met to assess Kenya's preparedness for artificial intelligence and consider ways of harnessing the technology in the country's national interest.

In a statement issued on Thursday from Karen, Kindiki said the committee discussed ways of leveraging artificial intelligence and aligning policy and programmatic interventions to make the technology work for Kenya's present and future national interest.

He said artificial intelligence is shaping the world's future and redefining many aspects of life.

"It will have a bearing on agriculture, climate, energy, security, jobs and other crucial sectors of the economy," Kindiki said.

"The Joint Committee of Cabinet has met to assess Kenya’s preparedness and to conceptualize on ways of harnessing AI, leveraging on it and modalities of aligning policy and programmatic interventions to make AI work for Kenya’s present and future national interest."
