Protests in Majengo Mombasa turned chaotic after protesters barricaded the street with rocks.

In retaliation, police officers fired teargas to disperse the protesters who had gathered around the Majengo area, Jomo Kenyatta Avenue.

Earlier on, the protests were peaceful with Kenyans waving flags and placards.

The demos are ongoing across the country, with Nairobi CBD being a teargas zone.

Police started lobbying teargas in Moi Avenue, Nairobi at around 11 am.

They were dispersing a crowd that was swelling in the streets waving Kenyan flags.
