In Summary

  • The women had on Tuesday come to protest against the demolitions
  • Well-wishers were able to help some women with water to reduce the impact of teargas

A group of women protesting Nairobi demolitions along Parliament Road were caught up in the fracas targeting Finance Bill protesters.

The women had on Tuesday come to protest against the demolitions, following a directive by the government to demolish properties in Nairobi Central District.

The women took to Nairobi streets to protest where they were met by police officers who had been deployed to repulse anti-Financ Bill protests.

They were caught in the fracas, hence having to bear with teargas lobbed by the police.

Teargas canisters had been lobbed by police officers to disperse irate groups that were demonstrating.

This alteration has left some protestors injured. Well-wishers were able to help some women with water to reduce the impact of teargas.

The Nairobi demolition protest coincided with the protests against the Finance Bill.

The protests dubbed 'Occupy Parliament' were expected to coincide with the tabling of the Bill in the House.
