Youthful Kenyans on Monday turned up in numbers for the Kenya Wildlife Recruitment exercise.
KWS said it seeks to recruit 1,350 rangers and 150 cadets (assistant warden I) at the end of the five-day nationwide exercise which started on April 15, 2024.
"The service operates in a remote environment and seeks to recruit dynamic individuals…who can endure the condition for training and deployment to various conservation areas," the notice announcing the recruitment in MyGov pullout dated March 19 said.
The recruitment, it said, is in response to the wildlife protection challenges currently being experienced in the country.
Successful candidates will undergo mandatory paramilitary training for nine months.
On the first day of the recruitment, KWS conducted interviews Lamu, Marsabit, Isiolo, Embu, Kitui, Machakos, Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu, Nandi, Migori and Kisii counties.
On Tuesday, April 16, action will move to Tana River, Meru, Makueni, Kirinyaga, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Laikipia, Homabay and Nyamira counties.
The exercise will be held in Kilifi, Wajir, Tharaka Nithi, Murang’a, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kajiado, Bomet, Bungoma and Kisumu counties on April 17.
