Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Monday traversed several counties as he ramped up state efforts to fight illicit brews and security check-ups across the country.

The CS noted that socio-economic development targets, law enforcement, and school transition rates for children in Nandi County are being hampered by drugs, substance and alcohol abuse.

As a result, he directed security and law enforcement agencies to generate a county-specific program to counter the drugs, substances and illicit alcohol menace and destroy the supply and demand chain.

At the same time, the CS noted that conflict of interest has been identified as the major impediment in the enforcement of policies on the eradication of illicit liquor and narcotic drugs.

"All public officers in the security, law, and order enforcement agencies who own bars or are in the alcohol business, directly or indirectly, must close them immediately or quit their jobs," Kindiki said.

The CS directed officers in enforcement agencies to either quit alcohol business or exit the public service.

The interior boss insisted that public officials colluding with drug peddlers or illicit brewers would be severely punished.

He also reminded the security officers that the three-year transfer policy for law enforcement and security officers must be strictly adhered to

Aafter having a meeting in Kericho, the CS also landed in Nandi where he held a situational security review forum with security and Intelligence heads and stocktaking of National Government programs in the County.
