Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday operationalised the new Shanta Abaq Sub-County in Lagdera Constituency, Garissa County.
This is the ninth sub-county the CS has operationalised countrywide.
Kindiki said the process to operationalise new sub-counties aligns with the government’s commitment to improving access to essential services for citizens.
He also opened the Deputy County Commissioner’s(DCC) offices and installed the first DCC, Kennedy Lwenyi for the Sub-County
"Creation of new administrative units will not only bring services to the people but also provide a desired shot in the arm to the war on terror and violent extremism in Northern Kenya," Kindiki said.
The CS stated that the Government continues to enhance the operational capabilities of all security agencies and to train more special forces to ensure even greater outcomes.
"Our officers in the frontline continue to register crucial successes against terror threats through the use of technology, modern equipment and intelligence-led kinetic operations," Kindiki added.
Kindiki had earlier acknowledged that budget constraints limit the simultaneous operationalization of all sub-counties but assured that his office remains dedicated to making it happen.
The Interior CS emphasized that the selection of sub-counties for operationalization would prioritize areas grappling with security challenges.
Leaders who attended the event include Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, Abdul Haji (Senator), Udgoon Siyad (Woman Representative), Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed (MP, Lagdera) and members of the Garissa County Assembly, Community leaders and members of the public.
