First daughter Charlene Ruto has continued her philanthropy by lending a helping hand to a school in Marakwet East to set up a fully equipped ICT and Resource Centre.
A statement released Monday said the President's daughter supported Simbirir Girls Secondary School to set up the centre through her networks.
"This will bolster digital literacy and skills to the young girls in that region," the statement said.
The statement said funding support was channelled by among others, the State Department of ICT & Digital Economy through Principal Secretary John Tanui who helped provide state-of-the-art computers and set up high-speed Wifi.
Charlene champions initiatives aimed at delivering a life of dignity, aspiration and hope to young people.
The initiative at Simbirir Girls was born when she visited the school in September 2023, for an anti-FGM campaign.
"She was moved by the school’s vision of turning one of its buildings into a dynamic centre to help girls grow their skills in various fields – a dream first mooted in March 2019," the statement said.
"This milestone bolsters her determination. We make a living by what we get but a life by what we give."
Charlene said the ICT and Resource Centre was commissioned on March 16, 2019, by the Sambirir Girls fraternity.
She said the school sought her partnership to fully equip it.
"Taking on the challenge, I sought partners. On February 2, 2024, partnering with State Department of ICT & Digital Economy, under PS John Tanui's mentorship, we delivered computers & WiFi," she said in a statement on X.
"I'm committed to empowering the youth!"
During the 7th Africa Agri Expo held at the Sarit Expo Centre, Nairobi, on February 20, Charlene discussed the importance of empowering youth, uplifting women and integrating technology into agriculture.
She emphasised the critical need for accessible education and training to equip youth with skills for innovation and sustainability in farming.
"Our goal is to inspire a new generation of agricultural leaders who see farming as a platform for positive change," she said.
The President's daughter also highlighted the pivotal role of women in agriculture and emphasised their expertise and leadership through policies that promote gender equality and initiatives that ensure access to resources.
The aim, she said, is to create an environment where women thrive as leaders in agriculture.
"Together, by empowering youth, uplifting women and leveraging technology, we are cultivating a brighter future for agriculture," Charlene said.
She said if leveraged well, sustainability, innovation and equality are central to Kenya's efforts to transform the agricultural landscape for the better.
