Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki is back in Meru County to assess the security situation
On Monday, the CS arrived at Theera in Mutuati subcounty, Igembe North, to assess the security situation, following reports of repeated livestock theft by armed criminals.
He will also hold a security strategy meeting with Eastern Regional Security Heads led by Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich, Meru and Mutuati subcounty Security and Intelligence Committees.
In May, Kindiki declared Meru North a security operation zone following rising cases of cattle rustling.
The declaration was meant to pave way for security personnel to deal with criminal activities.
The CS then launched a security operation in Meru North to end endemic livestock theft and insecurity.
Kindiki condemned the act as he talked tough and highlighted measures the government is taking to end banditry in the country.
"To conclusively deal with cattle rustling, the government has declared Meru North a security operation zone," he said.
"The same dedication, vigour, and commitment deployed in the fight against bandits and armed criminals in North Rift will be deployed to neutralise perpetrators and masterminds of livestock theft."
