[PHOTOS] Sabina, Kega among leaders at Bomas for National Dialogue talks

Various leaders have arrived at the Bomas of Kenya for the ongoing National Dialogue.

On Wednesday, the Independent Police Oversight Authority and Wajir South leaders arrived to submit their views on the five agendas of the talks.

The committee is set to hold talks on two-thirds gender rule, the cost of living, fidelity to political parties and coalitions, entrenching political party funds into the constitution, and establishment of the official leader of the opposition office and the office of prime cabinet secretary.

The government side is led by National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah and has Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Cecily Mbarire, Hassan Omar, and Catherine Wambilianga.

Azimio's side includes Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Nyamira Senator Okon'go Omogeni and Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi.

EALA MP Kanini Kega and Nominated MP interim Jubilee party leader Sabina Chege have also arrived at the venue to give their views.

On Tuesday, the Centre for Multiparty Democracy- Kenya (CMD-Kenya) proposed that commissioners at IEBC should elect their chairperson.

In submissions to the National Dialogue Committee, CMD-Kenya further proposed that IEBC commissioners be appointed to office 12 months after elections and should hold office for only one term.

“We submit that IEBC commissioners be recommended from and represent political parties,” CMD- Kenya chairperson Priscilla Nyokabi said.

She said the criteria should be pegged on the strength of a political party based on the percentage of the national vote garnered in the previous general elections.

Currently, IEBC commissioners and the chair are appointed by the President of Kenya, after a selection panel has recommended them.
