While passing through the outskirts of Dandora one will not help but glance at the heap of garbage at the dumpsite.

For those living around the area, it is life as usual as they have to put up with the smell and everything that comes with it.

A random pass by the Star at the dumpsite shows trucks offloading garbage at the dumpsite.

There were also a group of Marabou Storks which were feeding on the remains.

Dandora dumpsite has been named among the pollutants of the Athi River by the National Environmental Management Authority

Others are Kibera, Mukuru slums, Tassia, Pipeline, Eastleigh Section 3, Kiambiu slum, Githurai 44/45, Korogocho, Kahawa Wendani, and Mlolongo town as the major polluters.

Effluent discharged into River Athi from industries, slaughterhouses, dumpsites and municipal sewers were identified as the leading pollutants of the river, a report showed.

The report showed that many of the industries complied in treatment of materials they discharge.
