Accidents of the week: 6 students die, cop knocks down pedestrian

Six students die while travelling home

Six students died on the spot on Tuesday after a lorry and a matatu they were in got involved in an accident. 

The learners were travelling home from Western heading to Nairobi. 

The accident took place in Delamere Naivasha, Nakuru.

Seven other people were injured in the accident.

Tahmeed bus accident leaves four dead 

On Monday, four people were confirmed dead following a road accident involving a bus along the Eldoret- Nakuru Highway.

The accident occurred in Mau Summit after the Tahmeed Bus rolled several times.

Police said the driver of the bus was avoiding colliding with an oncoming lorry when he lost control of the vehicle and knocked some students who were walking home from school.

17 other people were critically injured while 10 others sustained minor injuries.

Police driving on wrong side of the road hits pedestrian

On Wednesday, chaos were witnessed on Nairobi's Kipande road after a police officer who was driving on the wrong side of the road knocked down a pedestrian.

The senior police officer was said to be rushing to a meeting and was trying to beat traffic. 

The victim, upon being knocked down, landed on the windshield and sustained injuries. 

He was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital for treatment.

Lorry-Nissan collision leaves one dead 

One person died on Tuesday after a Nissan collided with a lorry near Maragua along Kenol Murang’a road.

Murang'a subcounty police commander Jane Nyakeruma said the two vehicles were travelling from opposite directions and were trying to overtake when the accident occurred.

Nyakeruma said several people were taken to Maragua Level 4 Hospital for treatment and that the police were in the process of establishing the number of those injured.

One dead after vehicles burst into flames 

One person died on Friday while 23 others sustained serious injuries after two vehicles burst into flames on the Mombasa road.

Machakos county police boss Joseph Ole Napeiyan said a passenger bus and a Toyota Hilux car colluded before they burst into flames on Friday.

The accident occurred along Nairobi – Mombasa highway near the Shell filling station, a few metres from Maanzoni Lodge in Athi River, Machakos at about 1.00 am.

13 mourners killed in Mwatate road accident

13 people died after a bus carrying a group of mourners rolled at the Josa area along the Wundanyi-Mwatate road in Taita Taveta county.

The mourners were travelling to Mombasa after attending a funeral in Mghambonyi.

Mwatate subcounty police commander Morris Okul said the bus' brakes failed and as a result the bus fell into a ditch, causing the death of the passengers.

Several other passengers were injured and were taken to different hospitals in Mwatate and Voi.

Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime went to the hospital to check up on the victims.
