Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday handed over six patrol vessels to the port of Mombasa. 

Gachagua said the vessels were worth Sh306 million. 

The launch took place in Mombasa County at Liwatoni with the support of the government of Japan. 

The Deputy President said Blue Economy and Fisheries sector is an important enabler of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

"It is an opportunity for jobs, wealth creation, food security, and absorption of carbon from the marine eco-system - which is key to tackling climate change," Gachagua said.

He said the partnership between Kenya and Japan will invigorate the economies of the coastal counties- Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, and Taita Taveta.
