Kemsa has now acquired the main Embakasi warehouse and will soon embark on the relocation of stocks from Sunflag Industrial Park, a move that will also save a lot in terms of rent, and transportation between warehouses and depots to fulfil customer orders.
The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority on Tuesday opened a new warehouse for storage of medical supplies in Embakasi.
KEMSA CEO Terry Ramadhan Kuinge took the media on a tour of the warehouse.
She said KEMSA will soon embark on the relocation of medical supplies from Sunflag to Embakasi.
"This will improve efficiency as goods will be in one place and response time to customer orders will reduce as stocks will be under one roof," Kiunge said.
Kiunge said economically, KEMSA will also save a lot in terms of rent, transportation between warehouses and depots to fulfill a customer order.
She said the new warehouse will move the authority to the next level where it will now serve its customers better and gain a competitive lead over other medical suppliers.
KEMSA is mandated with the procurement, warehousing and distribution of drugs and medical supplies for prescribed public health programs, the national strategic stock reserve, prescribed essential health packages and national referral hospitals.
A cold room at the new premises is still ongoing.
Cold room is a refrigerating chamber in which a specific temperature is artificially generated.
It is generally designed for storing products in an environment below the outside temperature.
